Van Morrison-Still on Top |

I just purchased Van Morrison's compilation of greatest hits, Still on Top. It's a really nice album. Are there any Van Morrison fans out there?
(okay, Shannylou, I know you are not a Van Fan)

I love Van Morrison, MEC. Insignificant Other and I see him in concert every chance we get. He was in SF in December '07 but he had a bad cold so his
daughter sang a few songs and he played more instrumentals than usual. We saw him in January '07 in SF at what used to be the Avalon Ballroom in the early
70s. It was the typical SF old time set up with standing only. It was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Before that he opened for The Stones at
the Oakland Coliseum in November of 2006 and I can honestly say he was better than The Stones. In 2005 we went to his birthday concert at the Mountain Winery
in Saratoga. It was on a weekday and began at 4:00 p.m. He always starts on time, too. I've been to many more but heck if I can remember them all but I do
remember they're always great concerts.
Another really great concert which may be coming your way this summer is Steve Miller and Company. A friend and I went to see him/them at the third of their three practice sessions at The Fillmore not long ago. I love The Fillmore, all one needs to do is walk in the door and one is automatically stoned. When we got there we walked up the stairs (it's an old Victorian fire-trap above a Western Union office) and handed our tickets to the ticket-taker/hand stamper and I smiled and said, "Nice smell!." He replied, "What can I say, it's The Fillmore." The audience and the ushers were all boomers and very polite and of course, very stoned. We went up to the third floor to see the posters because my friend, who has been there a few other times with me but couldn't even remember being there before, (no doubt because of the smell in the air) wanted to see them. Naturally we tracked down the sole Moodies' poster in the Fillmore West section. It's just above the exit sign in the wider of the two bars upstairs. Anyway, Steve Miller finally came on with quite a few special guests. First they played their hits and then they played lots of R and B with some really great R and B special guests. It was a fantastic concert which just got better and better as the night wore on. Of course, it could have been the smell in the air, but if it's half as good without the smell, I'd highly recommend it.

cool post mango very interesting...
MEC, i love van but i have heard two or three songs only over the years on the radio, so that can ruin ones liking for an artist, probably shanny's reason to switch in part ...the compilation sounds like a good idea for next purchase, thanks... pbaub, you da moondancin man |
